Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friendship Place

  • 5 people are interested

The volunteer will support Friendship Place's Neighbors First Individuals (NFI) program. NFI provides Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) and support for highly-vulnerable, chronically homeless Individuals. All participants in the program are provided permanent housing -- along with comprehensive long-term case management -- to ensure a better quality of life and stability.

The volunteer will help the team with administrative tasks, including sorting participant paperwork, managing participant paper files, archiving older participant files in Box cloud storage and tackling assorted projects, as per instructions from the NFI Director. The schedule is flexible with the option of a weekly or bi-weekly volunteer shift.

The Case Managers on the NFI team greatly appreciate the administrative support, as this frees up their schedules to provide the highest quality field work with participants.

About Friendship Place

Location:

4713 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016, US

Mission Statement

At our core, our mission is to help people facing or at risk of homelessness to secure stable housing and embark on a new chapter in their lives. Our ultimate vision is for DC and beyond to be a place where everybody can find a place they can call "home."

Description

Friendship Place is staffed by over 100 people and has a wide reach in the DC Metro area. The highly successful programs have been given numerous awards, and help make a lasting difference in the lives of over 4,500 people yearly through street outreach, free medical and psychiatric clinic, including drop-in care, case management, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing for veterans and their families as well as job placement and specialized programs. Our program results have been incredibly successful, and various government and nonprofit organizations all over the country are studying our models to replicate our achievements.

Nonetheless, Friendship Place-supported by 26 congregations and more than 300 volunteers a year-retains the feel of a small, caring, neighborhood organization. The most commonly repeated refrain we hear from the people who come to us for help is this: "At other agencies, I felt like a number. At Friendship Place, I’m treated like a human being."
