We are in need of Station Leaders on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am-4pm every week throughout April. We can work with your schedule if you are only available certain days. There are 2 weeks in April that are Wednesday/Thursday trips. We would provide training and all necessary materials. You would be responsible for running a field trip station at Camp Puh'tok in Monkton MD. Stations last approximately 25 minutes and will have 8-10 students each. There are 18 different stations that students will rotate through during the 3-day trip. Volunteers must be comfortable working with 6th graders. If you are interested and would like more information on the program, please feel free to reach out! There are some more details in our Organization Profile.

Mission Statement

With a rich history dating back to 1942, Camp Puh’tok was founded to ensure that the transformative overnight summer camp experience was available to all Baltimore -area children, especially those that needed it most. Seventy-five years later, our mission largely remains the same; to bring together youth and adults from diverse backgrounds and provide meaningful outdoor learning experiences that foster an appreciation for our natural environment, our history and one another. At Puh’tok our primary focus is on youth development.

Description

Puh'tok's Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) program offers children a 3-day overnight field trip with an emphasis on using real-world science at 18 different stations in several different native habitats, including wetlands of stream and pond, as well as forest and meadow. Students will investigate each of the habitats. This MWEE program is designed directly along with Baltimore County Schools 6th grade curriculum to incorporate several aspects of STEAM. Each different habitat is classified as an investigation, within each investigation area there will be 3 stations running simultaneously. We are looking for qualified, engaging, and enthusiastic volunteers to assist in being program Station Leaders under the direction of our Puh'tok Lead Educators. Puh’tok will provide all resources and materials necessary to successfully execute each station, as well as detailed training to make the volunteers comfortable with the material. This is a fun and interactive program created to complement and reinforce classroom learning in an engaging outdoor environment. The goal is to find volunteers who are confident around children and interested in environmental science. We can provide everything needed for the field trip, but we can't do it without you! We will require a volunteer interview as well as a background check and fingerprinting.
