Opportunity:

Do you want to have the opportunity to change the world one person at a time? Or perhaps you want to learn how you can be a part of preventing the increasing suicides in the United States. Are you someone that wants to help people at one of the most critical times of their lives? Come join our fabulous Crisis Counselor team at Volunteers of America. You will be answering chats from all over the country, changing lives one person at a time.

Principal Activities:

  • Primary responsibility is to answer online chats that originate from both the Lifeline and imhurting.org portals
  • The Volunteer Crisis Counselor will provide non-judgmental, empathic, emotional crisis support by utilizing a crisis intervention model (RIDES) as well as suicide intervention techniques as appropriate during an online exchange with a Visitor who is in a self-defined crisis

Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18 years old
  • Must be available to train and work in Everett, WA
  • Demonstrate the ability to express empathy in written communication
  • Attend a total of 12 hours of mandatory training sessions
  • Ability to type 30 WPM
  • Complete 20 hours of real-time chat mentoring and supervision
  • Commit to a minimum of one weekly 4-hour shift for a minimum 6 month term
  • Must pass WSP background check
