Are you a licensed mental health provider passionate about serving at-risk populations in your community? Your one hour of support* can change someones life. Join Us at Give an Hour to start making an impact today.

Healing in Fairfax County Begins with YOU

Give an Hour depends on the generosity of mental health providers nationwide, who, by giving one hour of their time per week, allow us to provide care and support for those who otherwise might not receive it. We hope you will consider giving an hour to your local community by providing help and hope to children in need. Give an Hour Healthy Minds Fairfax is recruiting providers that hold a Virginia license to serve income-eligible children and youth ages 5 to 21 in Fairfax County and the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, VA. This population is in dire need of additional support, as families in and adjacent to poverty often feel overwhelmed and isolated and lack the necessary financial resources to seek help and support. Together with compassionate and generous providers like you we will be able to give the support and help they need and deserve.

More About Becoming a Give an Hour Provider:

*Volunteer providers are licensed mental health professionals who set aside one session per week for one year for a free client in the population(s) of their choice, starting with the military population. Services may be provided by phone, in person or using HIPAA compliant telehealth platform (provided at no charge).

In addition to direct counseling, Give an Hour’s providers work to reduce the stigma associated with mental health treatment and encourage care for our mental well-being and the mental well-being of others. Licensed volunteers may also opt to participate in other methods of support such as support groups, supporting emotionally impactful events, outreach to professional networks, speaking opportunities and more. A provider is NOT required to give clinical care to serve with Give an Hour, however all providers are encouraged to participate by giving their expertise. Not all mental health professionals will have a client all year, and not all providers choose to give therapy hours as their time! Many different types of providers sign up to work with GAH, but all must be licensed to provide therapy.

The commitment is flexible and Give an Hour works with you to ensure you are receiving the information, training and tools to be successful including:

  • Free Continuing Education
  • Free and discounted tools such as Therapy Notes, ReGroup Therapy virtual platform, listing on major referral sources
  • Free opportunities to connect with experts and professionals in your area of interest

Mission Statement

Give an Hour’s mission is to develop national networks of volunteers capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society. By harnessing the skill and expertise of volunteer professionals, we are able to increase the likelihood that those in need receive the support and care they deserve.

We believe that within our communities we have the resources to address many of the challenges that face our society. These challenges, such as time in military service or victims of crime, often result in emotional pain and suffering. Since 2005 we have focused on providing free mental health care to active duty, National Guard and Reserve service members, veterans, and their families. In 2015, Give an Hour launched the Campaign to Change Direction, a public health effort designed to change the culture of mental health so that those who are suffering emotionally are better able to seek and receive care. In 2016, we began expanding our efforts to address the mental health needs of other populations. Presently, we are seeking licensed mental health professionals to serve multiple populations.
