Best Friends Animal Society has partnered with Palm Valley Animal Center (PVAC), a nonprofit that provides animal control services for most of Hidalgo County. The shelter is in Edinburg, Texas near McAllen. This one shelter receives approximately 32,000 pets each year, and an average of 44 animals are killed there every day due to lack of space. Best Friends Animal Society is working tirelessly to help PVAC implement lifesaving programs to end the killing. This work can't be done without the support of the community.
We are looking for a volunteer located in Edinburg, or nearby, that can fill the role of a marketing and social media lead for the Best Friends program in Edinburg. This volunteer would assist the existing marketing, social media and PR staff at PVAC and PAWS.
Core responsibilities:
- Work with Best Friends embedded staff and shelter staff to identify and gather content, photos, video for regular updates to BFTX Facebook and Instagram channels.
- Identify and participate in third-party events promoting Best Friends work in Texas, adoption, and foster and volunteer recruitment.
- Assist with planning and executing PVAC and PAWS events and promotions.
- Assist PR staff to identify and work with local media outlets on editorial opportunities and promotional partnerships.
- Assist PVAC and PAWS staff to identify and execute local business partnerships and events.
- Proactively track and follow timelines, plans and communication docs.
