Be part of the solution to marine pollution! Get some fresh air while you participate in a noble cause: collecting and categorizing litter. Collecting litter on the beach, along waterways, and in neighborhoods with creeks and storm drains-keeps trash out of the ocean and protects the planet. Categorizing and counting what you find adds to data analyzed by scientists and used by policymakers. This is a remote volunteer opportunity done on your own time - you can choose when and where to do your community cleanups.
Here are the supplies you will need:
- Bag or bucket
- Gloves or trash grabber
- Ocean Conservancy's PDF to report what you collected. You can also download the Clean Swell app on your smartphone to go paperless!
If you don't have access to these supplies, please contact us and we will be happy to put together a beach cleanup kit for you for pickup at the Sea Center.
Collect trash for as long as you are comfortable with, whether that is 30 minutes or 2 hours. Before you participate in your first cleanup, we will need you to sign and return the attached waiver via email. Please review the attached document regarding community cleanup safety information. Use common sense and please maintain distance with people outside your household.
If you are interested in getting community service hours signed off on, then you will need to send your completed Ocean Conservancy data sheet (or screenshots of Clean Swell app), and photos of you with the trash you collected on the beach. We cannot sign off on court-ordered community service hours.
