Provide companionship and support to patients closer to the end of life (life expectancy of less than 6 months). Establish an ongoing relationship with a patient by engaging in quiet activities (reading, playing soft music, looking at photographs etc.), conversation or providing a compassionate presence.

Hebrew SeniorLife is a network of care for the elderly which sponsors Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, a 675-bed long-term care facility in Boston; three apartment complexes for seniors - Jack Satter House in Revere, Simon C. Fireman Community in Randolph and Center Communities of Brookline; the organizations's Research and Training lnstitute in Boston; and Orchard Cove, a premier life-care community in Canton. Hebrew SeniorLife also offers services to the community, including Great Days for Seniors â ¢, an adult day health program at the Center and in Brighton, short-term care services, and outpatient clinics in audiology, exercise, memory disorders, osteoporosis and rehabilitation. The organization is dedicated to providing seniors with the highest quality of life through care, housing, research and training.

  • • Approximately 10-20 hours of training on companioning patients at an advanced stage of decline • An estimated 1-hour time commitment per patient visit is expected. • Commitment to visit patients as long as availability allows
  • Volunteer requirements: • Compassion and ability to walk alongside others in difficult times • Patience and empathy • Good listening skills
