ORGANIZATION: Healthy Schools International

  • 8 people are interested

Our all-volunteer nonprofit serves schools and their communities in Sierra Leone and Kenya. We are looking to develop a more experienced and diverse board through recruiting people with direct experience in our program areas. If you would like to join a small board of passionate volunteers looking to make a difference in rural, underserved schools in Kenya, and you are either Kenyan or have extensive development experience working in the country (Peace Corps, World Bank, Embassy, etc), then PLEASE consider joining us.

  • Meetings are quarterly and can be done online.
  • We also have an annual strategy retreat and periodic working groups, if you are available then as well.
  • Introduce us to your network of compassionate donor-friends
  • Help guide our strategy for program execution as we bring clean water, safe sanitation and solar projects to rural and underserved schools in the Southern Rift Valley in Kenya.

Mission Statement

We help students in Sierra Leone and Kenya to thrive by partnering with their schools to implement clean water, safe sanitation and solar energy projects.

Description

Founded in 2010, Healthy Schools International, Inc (previously Deeper Missions, Inc) is a US-based, all-volunteer 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit, also registered as an international NGO with the government of Sierra Leone. We believe in "hand up" partnerships with schools and their communities in Africa; what this looks like is a 2- to 5-year relationship which implements and teaches sustainment of the clean infrastructure that helps enhance the health of the students. Additionally, we seek to work with the school to develop profit-generating services or products based on the clean infrastructure we help implement. This revenue stream at a minimum supports the maintenance of the infrastructure and, hopefully, can grow to help offset school operation costs.
