Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Raleigh Parks Volunteer Services Program

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

** IN ORDER TO REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THIS EVENT YOU MUST EMAIL MARY.OWENS@RALEIGHNC.GOV AND SHE WILL SEND YOU THE LINK.**

Event Description:

Join our Parks Division Greenway crew as we mulch and clean-up the greenway at Auburn-Knightdale Road Access Point.

Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will use wheelbarrows, pitchforks, hard rakes, pickup sticks, hand saws, loppers, and other tools as needed to help spread mulch, pick up litter, and remove invasive plants as needed.

Volunteer Impact: Mulching our landscape enhances the look of the trail and helps with controlling weeds and water retention in the area. Removing litter provides a safer environment for citizens as well as wildlife. By eliminating invasive plants, native growth can thrive and create a healthy habitat for animals.

Work Environment: We will be working outside in the elements, so dress accordingly. We will be working on unpaved, uneven ground. There is no restroom on site, but you will be able to drive to one off site.

Special Details: We will supply tools, gloves, snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray and a first aid kit. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that can get dirty and sturdy, closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or hiking/work boots.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Anyone under the age of 16, must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers will need to fill out a release form. Any volunteer under the age of 18, will need to have their parent or guardian fill this out as well. Volunteers under the age of 18 will not be allowed to use hand saws.

Per department policy this event cannot count towards court-appointed or suggested community service hours.

Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. If interested in registering a group, please email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov . We require a list of names and their email addresses to hold spots for groups.
