Executive Service Corps of Southern California (ESC) is looking for seasoned professionals with an interest and passion to empower nonprofits to maximize social impact.

Established in 1981, ESC empowers nonprofit leaders and their organizations in Southern California to better achieve their missions through high quality, affordable coaching and consulting delivered by volunteers with senior management or executive-level experience. Services include executive coaching, strategic planning, board development, fund development, and other customized consulting and coaching.

ESC trains and supports its volunteers in a client-centered, coaching-based approach that employs active listening, incisive questioning and thoughtful guidance - with a deep commitment to client confidentiality. Using this coaching method, consultants empower nonprofit leaders to develop their own resources to address challenges and develop leadership skills in themselves and their staff.

ESC’s 100+ volunteer consultants come from diverse professional backgrounds with senior management experience in business, nonprofit organizations, academia, and government, and they are passionate about using their experience and skills to help nonprofits in the greater Los Angeles area. This experience, combined with ESC’s first-class onboarding training and frequently offered continuing education workshops on relevant nonprofit topics, turns their commitment to community service into transformational results for clients.

In the course of their work consultants learn from each other, from their clients, and from the ESC staff of professionals, and they enjoy the camaraderie and professional connections that these activities bring. Consultants are matched with clients on an as-needed basis by mutual agreement according to particular needs and experience. The time commitment varies but is usually limited to no more than 16-20 hours per month, including some in-person meetings with clients at their location.

Prospective candidates with senior management and/or executive-level experience are encouraged to apply. Experience in the nonprofit sector, as a professional, volunteer or board member, is helpful but not required.

ESC is seeking to expand the skill range of its volunteer corps, so strongly encourages prospective volunteers with backgrounds in:

  • fundraising and development
  • training/facilitation
  • coaching
  • social justice/community organizing

ESC is proactively looking to diversify its volunteer corps to better match the diversity of clients and those they serve in southern California. We particularly welcome prospective volunteers who are:

  • People of color
  • Members of the LGBTQ community
  • Spanish-speaking

ESC is also looking to expand its geographical reach so we welcome prospective volunteers who are either based in or willing to travel to:

  • East San Gabriel Valley and the Claremont/Pomona area
  • Central and South Los Angeles
