Have your youth group make a non-bake item or trail mix to send out to our seniors at TLC Meals on Wheels.
Why encourage your school-age youth to work in the kitchen at TLC Meals on Wheels? Because the lessons learned there can be a benefit at home, in the classroom, and community.
- Cooking teaches kids about eating well/nutrition/ and importance of good food.
- Cooking can foster responsibility/ complete a project from start to finish.
- Your kitchen is a learning lab; measuring, mixing, portion control.
- Develop listening skills/ following instructions.
Your group provides the ingredients, sandwich bags, and craft supplies if you choose to make cards. The kids can work in our kitchen to assemble the items with the help of a TLC staff member, package into bags, and make cards to send out to our clients.
We obviously do not expect you to make enough for all of our clients (460); but any amount made would be delivered to clients. We have other groups doing similar type non-cooking food projects so we rotate clients to ensure all get special treats throughout the year.
Example: Ingredients for Trail Mix can include - as little or as much as you would like.
- Dried banana chips
- Dried cranberries
- Chocolate chips
- Granola
- Cereal
- Raisins
- M&M’s
- Nuts
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
