EVENT DESCRIPTION:

This is RESPOND’s fifth annual Chili Cook-Off. The organization hosted the first event back in 2015 when domestic violence incidents among professional sports leagues was big in the news. RESPOND seized the opportunity to shed light on the issue, and call on our network of supporters to take a stand against domestic violence. The Chili Cook-Off was born! The event maintains a football theme, inviting guests to wear football jerseys as a reminder that domestic violence can happen to any one, even people in relationships with celebrities or role models.

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING:

Volunteers will help with a variety of tasks which may include: event set up, break down, greeting guests, manning coat check, raffle table, judging, handing out samples, and other related tasks. It is important that guests have a great experience- so that they give generously and come back next year. Volunteers are vital in making that experience happen - so our help is much appreciated.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Please wear comfortable, neat looking shoes, dark blue jeans (no rips) or black pants. RESPOND will provide black, RESPOND branded t-shirts for volunteers. Volunteers may wear a black or white long sleeved shirt underneath. (The venue should be warm enough, but in case anyone prefers) Volunteers will be able to take (short) breaks to enjoy chili.

NOTE: This event is wheelchair accessible and is able to accommodate volunteers with disabilities. If you require any accommodations, please let the event manager know, so we can work with the nonprofit hosting the event to make necessary accommodations. Thank you!

WHERE TO MEET:

Holiday Inn Boston-Bunker Hill, 30 Washington Street, Somerville, MA. The Metropolitan event space which is just inside of the hotel’s main entrance. There is plenty of free parking onsite and the venue is T-accessible with a bus stop just outside, and Sullivan Station a short walk away. Mission Statement

One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Description

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event -- which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or caf where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.

Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time.
