Civil Engineer - Job Description - Haiti Now

Ayiti Now Corp is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Miami, Florida and created for empowering marginalized Haiti children of poverty known as "Restavek" in Haitian Creole, the local language) through our educational and support programs.

"Your first assignment will be to start a fundraising campaign. Haiti Now will provide further guidance for you to have a quick and successful fundraiser."

Role brief: The Civil Engineer role is a virtual volunteer position that works with other civil engineers and the Project Manager of Construction.

Scope of the project: The volunteer will work on water harvesting, recycling, purification for residential and agricultural use.

A licensed Civil Engineer, with land development experience, is required to help with a safe house project for Haiti Now.

Tasks would include determining an estimate of construction costs from the current cost of materials information as well as the necessary steps needed before land purchase.

Responsibilities:
Work with the farming team.
P.M. of Construction and other civil engineers to help develop the safehouse project for Haiti Now
Utilize Civil Engineering design skills:
prepare design plans, construction documents, reports, and other project-related documents
Draft blueprints from architectural drawings
Design-build services to include solar power, water, and wastewater/composting treatment systems incorporated throughout the facilities.
Prepare sewage and water treatment system, model
Conduct drainage analysis and utilize design expertise
Help prepare a bill of materials

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
Around 5 years of proven experience in Civil Engineering design with a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Software experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other applicable engineer design tools required
Experience with a variety of projects across several civil engineering disciplines
Fluent in spoken and written English, able to communicate clearly and consistently
Reliable internet connection a must
Minimum volunteer hours expected: 7-10 hrs per week
Proficiency in all areas of Google Apps such as Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
Familiarity with or quick adoption of Trello and Slack tools important
