Give the gift of education! Lifelong Learning Choices (Adult Literacy Lawrence County) is looking for volunteer tutors to help students in our adult education program. We provide free GED and English (ESL) classes to adults in Lawrence County, PA. Opportunities are also available in parts of Mercer County through one of our partner organizations.
Volunteer tutors provide supplemental instruction that complements what students learn in class. Tutors generally meet with students for an average of three hours per week. In-person and remote tutoring opportunities are available. Our primary needs for in-person tutors are in New Castle and Ellwood City. No experience is required. All materials and training are provided. Tutors should have at least a bachelor’s degree or be enrolled in college.

The agency’s mission is to provide non-traditional educational choices that promote lifelong learning for adult residents and their families who seek to improve their literacy skills in order to successfully realize their full potential as individuals, family members, workers, and citizens.
Description
Our agency opened its doors in 1980. In 1996, the organization’s directors sought non-profit status and became the community-based organization (CBO), Adult Literacy Lawrence County. Today we have a new name, Lifelong Learning Choices, that better represents who we serve and what we offer. Several members of the original board continue to serve. The agency began with a small grant that offered tutoring for adults who couldn’t read. Over the years the components have grown to meet the changing needs of the community, including ABE and GED(r), family literacy, ESL, college prep and technology components.
