Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) was founded in 1970 to serve the needs of Arizona’s most vulnerable populations. LSS-SW began providing refugee resettlement services in 1975. LSS-SW provides services to refugees, immigrants, older adults, adults with disabilities, and children in the foster care system. Position Summary:

An intern with Immigration Services would be providing support to clients receiving immigration services. The population served is typically low- and middle-income immigrants and refugees seeking legal immigration services. Most clients have been in the United States for at least a year, and come from countries all over the world. The intern will be focusing on program visibility and outreach, especially outreach to refugee clients who have been in the United States for 5 years or less. Daily tasks include supporting legal immigration services and carrying out projects as identified by the Immigration Services Coordinator, with a specific focus on making services available to refugee clients.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Outreach to clients
  • Occasionally creating promotional materials for community outreach, including advocacy and public interest updates
  • Lead initiative to increase volume of refugee clients seeking immigration services as they become eligible to apply for naturalization
  • Assist clients with legal immigration forms
  • Data entry and filing
  • Review documents for completion
  • Call clients to remind them of eligibility and schedule appointments

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communicator, comfortable with using the telephone
  • Detail orientated
  • Self-directed, comfortable with working independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Speaks a client language, such as: Spanish, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French
  • Some experience with United States Immigration practices
