Volunteer and make a difference!
There are several areas where you might volunteer. Serving food in the kitchen, helping sort donations, or reaching out to the homeless on Saturdays with our SPOT team. Contact us for details. We are able to provide hope and a future to those we serve, because of volunteers like you. Our hope is that your experience on our campus inspires you, and leaves you with a better understanding of what we do. We look forward to seeing you very soon.

Mission Statement
The Mission at Kern County’s purpose is to provide an environment conducive to the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of the people we serve. Our goal is to assist each of our residents and guests toward independent living. The objective of The Mission at Kern County (TMKC) is to assist our clients to obtain the highest level of independent living by: • Stabilizing the immediate crisis of the homeless by offering vital physical care (lodging, food, showers, and clothes) in a caring and safe environment that begins to build trust and hope. • Offering options through appropriate referrals to secondary programming such that the individual has additional opportunities to effectively address the issues that contributed to his/her homelessness. • Create job opportunities and training for homeless individuals to find employment.
Description
The Mission at Kern County has been operating for over 60 years. We have purposed to change as the numbers and needs of the homeless population has grown and changed. Operations have moved 3 times before settling at our current location. Today we continue to expand locations and add programs to serve our clients. TMKC is regarded as an entry point in the continuum of care for the homeless and for those in need of rehabilitative services. Our desire is to convey that TMKC is a caring, safe and stable environment; one where homeless individuals can get their needs met in order to obtain self-sufficient and independent lives. Clients are offered a safe environment where they can receive food, shelter, clothing as well as other services. TMKC partners with numerous non-profit service providers in Kern County. Each client’s needs are individually assessed and provided for to the extent that resources allow. Where our services are not able to meet the needs of a client, they are referred to other agencies that are able to do so. Our target population includes individuals that are homeless and have low or no income. Some suffer from mental illness and about 44% are burdened by alcohol and/or substance abuse addictions.
