About Pacific Atrocities Education

Location:

950 GRANT AVE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94108, US

Mission Statement

Pacific Atrocities Education brings awareness to wartime atrocities in the Pacific Asia region, helping survivors find closure and reconciliation for their painful memories and increasing dialogue about complex contemporary issues surrounding human rights worldwide.

Description

Pacific Atrocities Education was originally founded as the Foundation Honoring Nanjing Massacre Survivors in 2013 by Cheng Yu and Jenny Chan. The project was a member of the Intersection Incubator, a program of Intersection for the Arts in San Francisco. Over 500 people in the Bay Area have become involved in or were a part of the project's early efforts.

During the project's first year, the theatrical productions of Forever Ginling and Crimes of Hirohito were well received. Press coveragge included stories and releases about the project efforts by KTSF, China Daily, Singtao Daily, China Watch, the Washington Post, and the Daily Telegraph.

In 2014, Pacific Atrocities Education gained 501c3 status as a federally recognized non-profit organization. The organization will continue to present groundbreaking works in literary and performing arts related to the Nanjing Massacre and the Pacific Asia War. In addition to other community endeavors, Pacific Atrocities Education hopes to partner with public schools in San Francisco to support their current curriculum framework for World War II history with arts-based education.
