Looking for interested community members to be part of a team and help build a fair trade store in the Dallas area. We are currently researching neighborhoods and locations and hope to open by October. Will need help with marketing, outreach efforts and community engagement.

Providing leadership, best practices and coordinating efforts, will be people in the home office of Ten Thousand Villages US and from the Austin store. We will have a very hands on approach, helping to coordinate a steering committee, build a board and staff, pick a location, and then set up a store. We need your help to build a solid community and network of supporters and volunteers.

Ten Thousand Villages has been around since 1946. Over the years, we have built up a grassroots community which now consists of 70 stores across the country and a successful online store. As a pioneer of fair trade, we do business differently, putting people and planet first. Join our team!

Mission Statement

Ten Thousand Villages' mission is to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships.

Description

At Ten Thousand Villages, our mission is to help artisans in developing countries improve their lives through fair trade. We work with women, people with disabilities, and marginalized populations to help them break the cycle of generational poverty by ensuring our makers earn a fair, living wage in safe working conditions. Our retail store sells the beautiful, unique handicrafts these artisans create from over 30 developing countries around the world.

Our products include home furnishings, musical instruments, coffee, chocolate, jewelry, and toys. Through fair-trade practices, the artisans who produce these products are paid fair wages up front. We ensure that our artisans are operating under safe working conditions and are producing environmentally-friendly goods.
