If you enjoy working with people of all ages, have a passion for art, and want to help the DMA increase access to arts programming across the city, Community Programs is the volunteer opportunity for you!
DMA Community Programs volunteers are a new corps of DMA volunteers who make possible newly-created, off-site DMA experiences for youth, families, and adults in Dallas communities. Community programs volunteers serve as teaching assistants in multi-session weekday afterschool programs and weekend single session workshops, encouraging attendees to make connections to works of art in the Museum's collection and express their creativity with art making activities. In addition to program facilitation, volunteers play an integral role in behind-the-scenes program prep and will assist with program evaluation.
Community Programs volunteers also have opportunities to represent the Museum at community events and festivals. Most festivals will take place on weekends during the daytime, with some evening weekday events. Duties will include loading supplies at the the Museum and transporting them to events, providing information about Museum programs and exhibitions to event visitors, facilitating art activities, overseeing assistant volunteers, and packing up and returning supplies to the Museum.
Bilingual or multiple language skills are considered an asset, but are not required. Previous experience teaching or working with youth is preferred. Volunteers should communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds, and be punctual, proactive, and responsible. Volunteers must have the ability to lift 25 lbs., possess a valid driver's license, and have transportation to offsite events. Volunteers should plan to assist with two programs per month and remain in the program for a period of one year.
Interested volunteers must attend two training sessions held at the DMA in February. All Community Programs volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and must undergo a background check through Verified Volunteers.
We are currently accepting applications for DMA Ambassadors until Monday, January 28. Please use this link to apply: https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?ap=96721867
