Lifeline, in a collaborative partnership with the Lake County Probate Court, is seeking volunteers who are interested in becoming legal guardians. Individuals who have been deemed incompetent by the Court after being identified by a medical professionals as needing a guardian will be clients of the program. Guardians assist with ensuring the health and safety of clients by working with service providers and the Court, and can make decisions on behalf of a client that may include healthcare and housing. Local travel may be required to meet with clients in-person as well as to attend any related meetings. The Lake County Volunteer Guardian Program will provide support to guardians in an effort to meet the needs of the client.

Mission statement: "To lead the community in the fight against poverty by offering programs and opportunities to empower our residents to achieve self sufficiency". The Volunteer Guardian Program serves those who are deemed incompetent by the Probate Court and require additional assistance with issues such as those related to health and housing. Clients will include those who are elderly, disabled, struggling with mental illness or other chronic conditions.
Description
Lifeline was founded on June 19, 1973 with the mission of helping Lake County's low-income residents by providing assistance and life skills programming that was designed to increase self-sufficiency. In 1980, Lifeline became a participating agency of the United Way of Lake County. In 1987, Lifeline was designated as Lake County's Community Action Agency by the Ohio Department of Development. And in 2008, Lifeline became certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health as a mental health agency.
Today, Lifeline is a community leader in providing services and advocating for Lake County residents who live in poverty. Program areas include housing, health services, financial literacy, information and referral services, utility assistance and reentry outreach.

- Each Volunteer Guardian will be matched with a client (ward) that best aligns with the availability of the volunteer. An interview with Lifeline staff will determine the best match for a volunteer. Local travel is required.
- Volunteer guardians will complete activities such as meeting with their ward and communication with staff, Court and other service providers. A six hour training is required to become a guardian and reliable transportation.
