CRISISline and TEENline Volunteers Needed!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Mental Health America of Greenville County

  • 9 people are interested

Mental Health America is seeking volunteers 18 or older to answer our 24/7 CRISISline. CRISISline is for those in our community struggling with the choices and demands of life who are in need of a listening ear. We are looking for caring, empathetic volunteers who have an interest in their community and compassion for people of all walks of life. CRISISline training will teach you how to provide support for those who are looking for compassion and assistance. You can become a part of the hope that is an anchor for so many, while gaining valuable skills and experience in the mental health field.

TEENline volunteers are also needed. This line provides peer support for teens who are in crisis. TEENline volunteers must be at least 16 years old. All volunteers must be mature, responsible and non-judgemental. The volunteer must be able to follow policies and excel in a team environment.

If interested, please contact volunteer@mhagc.org and give a phone number to contact you. Our upcoming training class will start on January 29, so sign up quickly! No prior experience necessary!

Description

Have your loved ones (or even perfect strangers!) told you that you are a natural listener? Do you believe that empathy and actively listening can be powerful tools when individuals confront crises and other challenges? Are you located somewhere in the US and have access to a computer with WiFi in a location in which you can volunteer confidentially? After training, do you have three to four hours a week in which you could give hope and save lives?

If so, we would love to tell you more about how YOU can become an important member of the MHAGC Volunteer Family! MHAGC serves the entire state of South Carolina (and beyond!) with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Our 24/7 services allows callers to connect with trained volunteers and staff who provide non-judgmental active listening, information on resources, and crisis intervention.

Lifeline/TEENline volunteers/interns give their time, effort, and--most importantly--hearts to empathize with callers from all across the country. As a Lifeline/TEENline volunteer, you would:
* Ring out hope in person at MHAGC's facilities or in the comfort of your home;
* Expand your knowledge of behavioral health resources and the agency's programs;
* Gain skills that will be helpful personally and professionally; and
* Be part of a team of dedicated individuals who have chosen to make a positive difference!

We look forward to talking with you and sharing more!
