We are looking for a self-motivated and passionate individual to join the California AmeriCorps Disaster Team, through the American Red Cross. The Disaster Team has the unique opportunity to work on all sides of the recovery process by supporting both the Red Cross and our partner organizations, such as Cal OES, FEMA, etc. Members will serve in a full-time capacity (approximately 40 hours per week) to meet the requirement of 900 service hours throughout the 6-month term.
The Sacramento AmeriCorps members are involved with supporting the Disaster Cycle Service (DCS) department, which focuses on preparing members of the community through the delivery of preparedness trainings, building the Red Cross’ capacity by recruiting new volunteers, supervising volunteer teams, and responding to local emergencies. Responsibilities will include weekend and evening commitments, and all members will be expected to participate in off-hours assignments. In addition, members of the Disaster Team may be required to deploy for two-week periods to assist with disasters within the State of California.

- Must be available to serve full-time from 2/25/19-8/23/19
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Able to pass a criminal background check
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED
- Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Bilingual language skills in Spanish, Russian and/or Arabic are not required, but highly desired
- Bi-weekly stipend of $652.17 (before taxes), health and dental coverage, and childcare assistance to those that qualify
- Upon successful completion of the program, members will receive an Education Award of $2,960 to use towards qualified student loans or future tuition
- Student loan forbearance during the period of service
