Position includes:
- Learn about and assist with tracking legislation in Health & Human Services and other applicable areas.
- Draft information to pass along to stakeholders (employees, persons served, families).
- Research key policy and legislative issues.
- Assist in setting up meetings with elected officials.
- Provide information to persons served and other stakeholders so they can attend meetings and feel prepared to discuss topics of importance.
- Work with the MSS self-advocacy committee to provide and prepare information of importance to the group.
- Build relationships with key members of the MN Legislature and staff. Attend events, meetings at the Capitol, etc.
- Provide educational materials for lawmakers about services to people with disabilities.
- Gather issue-specific personal stories from persons served by MSS to disseminate during the legislative session.
- Help organize MSS participation in Disability Day at the Capitol and/or Tuesday at the Capitol.
- Assist in scheduling visits by elected officials to MSS Centers. Attend visits if schedule permits.
