WordPlay Cincy is a nonprofit organization helping young people fulfill their potential through reading, writing and storytelling. You can be a huge part of helping elementary students form strong relationships with reading and writing through the new WORDlab, WordPlay's after-school literacy program at Chase Elementary School in Northside. We need dedicated volunteers to give at least two sessions each month, either Mondays or Wednesdays from 2:00pm (2:30pm at the latest) - 4:00 pm.
The WORDlab is designed to address a persistent decline in reading proficiency from 3rd grade to 4th grade, so that students get back on track and are better prepared to start junior high school. The WORDlab will have fun reading, writing and movement-based activities all focused on creating a fun environment for literacy and overall learning to flourish.

Description
We are an innovative nonprofit organization founded to support children in grades Kindergarten through 12 with free programs ranging from early literacy to creative and expository writing to social-emotional learning. WordPlay offers after-school homework help, literacy skills, multi-media and collaborative arts programming, and much, much more. Our services are founded in research that shows measurable improvement in students’ overall academic performance when they have access to consistent, individualized attention, and that strong reading and writing skills are essential to future success in and beyond the classroom. Celebrating our first anniversary in September 2013, already over 500 children have participated in our programs and events. Help us continue to make a difference in the lives of children who need it most!

- We ask for a commitment of two 2-hour sessions per month.
- There is a 1.5 hour orientation and WORDlab training required prior to beginning your volunteer service. We will have you fill out a background form at this time, and process that for you.
