You will be an essential part of the American Red Cross of Eastern New York’s response and recovery team. This position is responsible for safely deploying, coordinating, coaching and supervising Eastern New York disaster workers to active disaster scenes throughout our twenty-four counties. The duty officer supports disaster responders in the field and ensures accountability and standardization for the entire region’s disaster response and recovery program.

Time Commitment:

Minimum requirement to hold the duty officer position is 8 six hour on-call shifts per month, shifts are in Eastern Time Zone and are 6:00am until 12:00pm, 12:00pm until 6:00pm, 6:00pm until 12:00am or 12:00am until 6:00am.

Coverage is needed across our region 24 hours, 7 days per week, 365 days a year. We are willing to work with your schedule as long as it fits the needs of the program and organization.


Qualifications:

• Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills
• Proficient with the use of a computer and cell phone (often simultaneously)
• Access to an internet connection and computer; cell phones will be provided, but you must have strong cell service at your home
• Emotional fortitude to work with clients and volunteers during times of crisis
• Ability to interface professionally with partners, clients, community members and volunteers and to filter and answer a variety of disaster, personal or other community needs
• Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and make decisions under stressful conditions with tight timelines
• Willingness to learn and gain ability to manage multiple incidents simultaneously across the 4th largest state in the nation
• Ability to work with a team
• Ability to follow American Red Cross policies and procedures
• Ability to fulfill the shift requirements
