ORGANIZATION: Global Green USA

The United Nations General Secretary recently stated, "We are in trouble. We are in deep trouble with climate change. It is hard to overstate the urgency of our situation. Even as we witness devastating climate impacts causing havoc across the world, we are still not doing enough, nor moving fast enough, to prevent irreversible and catastrophic climate disruption." Every day it seems the need to take aggressive action becomes even more obvious. Last Wednesday, the United Nations Climate Conference in Poland announced that global emissions of carbon dioxide have reached the highest levels on record. This increase would bring emissions to a record high of 37.1 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Since the "CleanEnergy DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018" was introduced in April, the world’s scientists and policy experts have shared climate change data, both from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), that conclusively tells us we have a serious problem that needs our immediate attention.

Washington DC is expected to soon pass the "CleanEnergy DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018." The DC Environmental Network (DCEN) has for over fifteen years worked to fundamentally put the pieces in place for successful implementation of this carbon reduction bill. We're currently adocating for a few more steps to help our city reach what needs to be a most critical milestone.

Global Green and DC Environmental Network are seeking a media volunteer in order to help us:

1) Communicate to the media and map out a media strategy during this historic moment, and build momentum for further action.

2) Help share the leadership story and policy of Washington DC with other cities.

We are so very close to passing a strong bill on December 18th. Passage of this bill, in our nation’s capital city, will send a signal of hope, and show many other cities and states, that we can respond to the challenge of climate change.

Please contact us if you have a professional background in media or journalism and how you would like to help, as well as a general description of your time availability and preferred hours.
