MLK Day of Service At Whittier Park

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Pierce Conservation District

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 1 person is interested

Do you ever think about how you are connected to your local park and the critters in it? In anticipation of Martin Luther King Jr Day we've been thinking about what he said about our interconnectedness. He said:

"It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny."

In that spirit, let's strengthen that "network of mutuality" this MLK day and improve this hidden nature oasis so that it can be a get away from urban sprawl for the people and the critters we love!

Activities include:

  • Trail building.
  • Adding a thick layer of wood chips to help sustain the plants through the winter and into the summer.
  • Removal of harmful plants

Training: We'll provide all the training you'll need!

To bring:
  • Water bottle
  • Warm clothes that can get dirty
  • Your friends and family :-)
Be sure to dress warmly and wear clothes you can get dirty in!

Description

The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 65-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important than ever.
