Jumpstart at the University of Washington, a national early education organization working with preschool aged children from under-resourced communities to promote early learning and education for all, is partnering with City Fruit! City Fruit is a non-profit organization "dedicated to putting urban fruit trees to their best and fullest use". Meaning they help growers and orchard stewards harvest extra fruit and share that harvest with local community programs and community members/families to help increase healthy food access and make the best use of urban growing food spaces.

On MLK Day we will be helping them restore a historic orchard space near Mount Baker, with trees that were planted in the 1940's! We will be helping clear weeds, apply mulch, and remove damaged branches from the trees, and we could use your help!

You can email Hailey (jstartvc@uw.edu) for more info or to sign up!

Mission Statement

Jumpstart's vision is to work toward the day every child in the U.S. enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Description

Jumpstart at the University of Washington is part of a national early education organization that works with preschool aged children from under resourced communities to promote quality early learning and education for all. We do this through recruiting and training college students to serve in preschool classrooms throughout Seattle, providing language, literacy, and social-emotional programming. We also host one-time or short-term events aimed at further supporting children and their families throughout Seattle, and sometimes partner with other organizations focused on the health, education, and overall well-being of children in our community.
