Judging Questions are provided. Judging rubrics can be reviewed on the Dakota Science Center web page under the Robotics tab: www.dakota-science.org. Core values judges evaluate how well a team works together. Project judges evaluate team research presentations. Robot design judges and field challenge referees need to be familiar with FIRST LEGO League robots.

FIRST LEGO League Teams are judged on:

1) Core Values - have they learned that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping each other is the foundation of teamwork?

2) Project - teams research a real-world problem and present an innovative solution to that problem.

3) Robot Design - teams answer questions regarding their approach to the design

4) Field Challenge - robots are designed and programmed by team members to perform a series of missions during 2½ minute matches.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Dakota Science Center is to encourage lifelong curiosity and fascination with science in children, parents, teachers, and the community through discovery, exploration and interaction.

Description

DSC provides hands-on science programming at community events throughout the year and hosts two annual events. Volunteers are needed to help with activity stations at events and help teach children. The Super Science Saturday event is held during National Environmental Education Week in April with hands-on activities for children grades 1-7. The Water Festival is held in May for fourth graders. DSC sponsors Greater Grand Forks Robotics Club which develops classes for youth and participates in the FIRST LEGO League. The out-of-school programs and activities have a non-threatening setting which helps build the confidence of young people. We encourage youth to envision a career in a STEM field.
