As a Cooking Class Assistant for after-school classes, you will be a key player in creating the culinary experiences that shape the future generation of creative cooks and thoughtful eaters. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with the local community of families, chefs, and restaurants that have partnered with us to give kids from all backgrounds the opportunity to cook and eat healthy meals.

We need enthusiastic, food-savvy volunteers who are ready and eager to jump into the kitchen and lead cooking classes with middle school aged girls from East Harlem. A love for working with kids and experimenting with new recipes is a must. You will be responsible for leading students through a culinary lesson plan, ensuring kids stay safe in the kitchen, and maintaining a fun, friendly, and educational cooking environment.

This is your chance to get hands-on in a school classroom as you take your passions for food, cooking, education to the next level. In addition to engaging with local communities of families and students, you will also be working with a top chef from the Harlem community.

• Assist After-School Cooking Classes for middle school girls, teaching basic knife skills, chopping techniques, and kitchen safety
• Supervise groups of up to twenty students during cooking classes
• Set up and clean up spaces in schools as part of prep for cooking events

• Cooking experience and comfortability in the kitchen (formal culinary experience is not required)
• Past experience working with kids
• Organized, creative, and able to adapt to situations on the fly
• Passion for education, cooking, nutrition, and teaching kids
