FALL 2019

WELCOME! Join us on another adventure with Camping Unlimited's Year-Round Weekend Programs for children and adults with disabilities. Participants with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other challenges enjoy weekend day trips and overnight adventures with the help of our wonderful Volunteers. We explore beautiful state parks, attend sporting events, theatrical productions, visit museums, community fairs, festivals and more. A favorite adventure, is heading to the Santa Cruz Mountains to stay at beautiful Camp Krem. We explore the redwoods hiking through nature trails, create with arts n'crafts, dance, perform with karaoke, talent shows and have magical campfires. (See Youtube links below).

All volunteers must complete an application, provide references and will be background checked.

Volunteers assist on a variety of weekend options based on their availability. We are currently seeking Volunteers for our extremely popular weekend overnights. The typical schedules available to volunteer are: 1-Day Trips, Saturday, 9 - 5 or Saturday/Sunday weekend overnights, (includes a 1-night stay) 9 - 5, Or extended weekends from Friday at 3pm to Sunday at 5pm. Travel Camps - TBA.

Responsibilities: Volunteers "Counselors" should be good role-models, mentors, offering friendship and guidance while interacting on all activities. They assist with supervision, mealtime prep, cleanup and support Campers who need assistance with personal care. Being a Volunteer Counselor can be both physically and emotionally challenging and at times, can include long hours. Volunteers become a part of our team and are provided with ongoing support and training by our experienced Program Directors and staff.

Volunteers and Campers travel to all destinations via our Camping Unlimited bus. Pick up points are in Oakland and San Jose (Campbell), California.

September 14: San Francisco Zoo
Lions and tigers and bears - oh my! Let's explore the San Francisco Zoo. If the weather is nice, we may even take a short trip to Ocean Beach!

September 21: Luna Park Chalk Art Festival
Join Camp Krem at a local art festival. Complete with music, vendors and food, this trip has something for everyone!

September 28: Tilden Park
Join us for a fun and relaxing day at Tilden Park. We will take a ride on the steam train, stroll through the botanic garden and ride the merry-go-round. After a picnic lunch, we'll check out the The Little Farm and say hi to all the animals!

October 5-6: Dive into the YRRP
We're starting our overnights with a splash! Join us on this one-night overnight where we will be taking a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium!!

October 12: Great America
A trip for the thrill seekers! We'll spend the day enjoying all the Great America attractions.

October 18-20: Halloween Overnight
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Campers will have the opportunity to carve pumpkins, do some trick or treating and show off their costumes at our big, spooky Halloween party!

October 26: Day on the Bay
Courtesy of one of our camper's parents, we will be taking a boat ride around Alcatraz Island! This is a trip not to be missed and will include checking out all SF's Fisherman's Wharf has to offer!

November 1-3: Horse Heaven Overnight
This is one time at Camp where horseplay is encouraged! We will be visiting Lichen Oaks Adaptive Riding Center for a day at the stables. There, we will enjoy therapeutic riding lessons (some criteria apply), learning about horse care, exploring their beautiful facilities and making arts & crafts. The rest of the weekend will be full of the usual Camp Krem overnight fun -- music, hiking, dancing and more. Equestrian enthusiasts, this is a weekend for you!

November 8-10: Apple Hill Weekend*
Join Camp Krem for a relaxing long weekend at a KOA near Apple Hill. Our days will be filled with all of the amazing activities Apple Hill has to offer: we will eat delicious pie, walk through mazes, enjoy the beautiful fall weather and so much more!
*This trip will be an extended overnight and will be departing at 12pm.

November 9: Second Saturday (Jack London Square)
We're off to enjoy Jack London Square's premiere monthly event. Featuring over 50 vendors, live entertainment and food, Second Saturday feels like a neighborhood block party amongst friends.

November 15-17: Thanksgiving Overnight
Camp Krem is the place to be to celebrate Thanksgiving! Our favorite camp activities will help us work up an appetite for our Thanksgiving feast on Saturday night!

November 23: Great Dickens Christmas Fair
The Great Dickens Christmas Fair is a one of a kind holiday adventure into Victorian London - an elaborate party with hundreds of costumed players performing and interacting with patrons in over 120,000 square feet of theatrically-lit music halls, pubs, dance floors and Christmas shops.

December 6-8: Roaring Camp Overnight
Come join Camp as we take a journey to one of our all-time favorite destinations, Roaring Camp Railroads! This respite weekend will have all of the classic activities of our typical overnights, plus an awesome guided tour through the Redwood forest on a steam train.

December 13-15: Holiday Overnight
Start your holiday season off right with our Holiday Overnight! Help make cookies, deck the halls, make holiday crafts and maybe even get a surprise visit from a certain jolly fellow!

December 21: Winter Lodge
Join Camp on a fun day of ice skating at Winter Lodge ice rink, as we slide our way into the new year with our last day trip of 2019!

Description

Camping Unlimited (founded in 1957) provides children and adults with developmental disabilities opportunities for recreational & educational programs throughout the entire year. Participants of all ages and disabilities (including Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Prader-Willi Syndrome, visual and hearing impairments and other physical /emotional challenges) enjoy a wide variety of respite weekends, overnight adventures, day trips, residential summer camp sessions and extended travel camps. The community-based events extend throughout Northern California's San Francisco Bay area and also includes Santa Cruz County and beyond.
