Overview of Role: The Winnebago Community Market was opened to provide nutritious food to our community, according to our research on priority counties in Northern Illinois. Our volunteers for these Markets allow us to continue to grow these programs, feeding even more of our northern Illinois neighbors. Each Market needs approximately 15-25 volunteers in order to serve these populations most effectively.

Responsibilities: Available volunteer roles are chosen the day of the shift, and include assisting in registration, handing out food, restocking the food carts, and managing the carts as clients move to and from their cars.

Requirements: Interested volunteers should be comfortable interacting with others and must wear closed-toe shoes in order to participate.

Age: Volunteers should be at least 13 years old. Any volunteers under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Time Commitment: Volunteer shifts last from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.

Specific Days: The Winnebago Community Market operates every Saturday morning.

Training Required: Volunteers will receive a brief overview of Market operations as well as instructions on how to carry out their chosen role.

Did you know 1 in 8 of our neighbors in northern Illinois face hunger? 1 in 5 kids in northern Illinois face hunger struggles as well. Northern Illinois Food Bank acquires donated food from retailers, local and national manufacturers, farmers, individuals, businesses, the federal government and also purchases additional products. Northern Illinois Food Bank then delivers the food to our network partners for distribution to hungry neighbors. We currently work with 700 network partners in 13 counties to help feed those in need. Volunteer, donate, and get involved in our feeding hungry neighbors today!
