We are searching for a Hospice Veteran Volunteer who will provide companionship and camaraderie to fellow Veterans who receive Hospice services.
Veterans can spend time talking with one another and sharing military experiences. We are looking for a dedicated, caring, and compassionate volunteer with a willingness to serve. Must be a veteran of or currently serving with any branch of the United States Military. This is an excellent opportunity for military retirees! We will work with your schedule.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
* Maintain a safe environment for patient for duration of visit.
* Perform special recognition ceremony in honor of service of patient and sacrifice made by both patient and family. Military dress encouraged when possible.
* Provide recognition for service and participate in veteran-centric events such as Pinning Ceremonies, Presentation of Veterans Certificates, Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day events.
* Visits patients in their homes, nursing home, assisted living facility, personal care home, or inpatient unit to offer conversation, respite, and assistance.
* Provide emotional/social support in a non-judgmental manner that honors the spiritual needs of the patient/family.
* Work collaboratively as a member of Interdisciplinary Team(s).
* Act as a comforting presence for patients who are unable to respond during visits.
* Assist patient with any hands-off needs they may have.
* Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, and the organization.
* Perform as a member of the SJH team and participate in the philosophy of the agency.

Hospice is a model of compassion-based comfort, care, and support for patients with advanced illnesses as well as their families.
Hospice is living with quality end of life care. Our organization is for patients with many types of illnesses. While about half of our patients have some sort of cancer, a large segment of our patients have cardiac and respiratory disease, renal disease, neurological illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, AIDS, cirrhosis and other terminal diseases.
