Do you want the opportunity to help design and produce Garden Pool’s very first video game?

By volunteering as a GP Video Game Developer, you can use your ingenuity and creativity to their fullest potential as you help spread Garden Pool’s mission to the rest of the world! We are looking for talented video game designers to help develop our current, playable game prototype into a fully-functional, gaming experience that can act as an innovative, exciting tool for sustainability education. Our video game will be a Garden Pool farming simulator that integrates real regional information (like climate, music, and agricultural practices) into each game location.

We are looking for designers for the following positions:

Team Lead:

  • Overseeing and delegating the Video Game Team’s responsibilities to ensure quality, accuracy, and completion of tasks
  • Facilitate effective communication strategies to ensure project completion
  • Develop and help to program the game
  • Problem solve and answer questions about the project
  • Delivering feedback for completed tasks and recognizing team members’ challenges and contributions

System Programmer:

  • Experience with C# and Unity to help with coding and programming (like lighting, baking, rendering, and loading systems)
  • Ensuring present/continued refinement and optimization of the current code within the Garden Pool game
  • Ensuring that the code from scripts and general programming function together properly
  • Collaborating with other programmers to understand and troubleshoot bugs
  • Collaborating with the Environmental and Cultural Researcher to integrate accurate regional information into the game
  • Creating basic AI for animals in various environments/locations

3D Environmental Animator:

  • Improving visuals and graphics within current video game prototype
  • Cleaning up model files from Sketchup and optimizing them for a game environment
  • Using attention to detail to fully develop the video game’s performance & efficiency
  • Animating bipedal and quadrupedal forms (as well as fish), plus world animations, such as doors and drawers opening
  • Collaborating with the Environmental and Cultural Researcher to integrate accurate regional information into the game

Environmental and Cultural Researcher:

  • Researching, curating, and if possible, creating sounds and songs to add to the overall realism of the game
  • Learning about the unique agricultural strengths and difficulties in each region/location of the game
  • Finding sounds and music that match the local feels of countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Puerto Rico, and Barbuda
  • Researching the climates/weather of each region
  • Collaborating with designers to implement this research in a way that’s conducive with the game environment

Weekly Time Commitment: 9 hours per week
