ChickTech Charlotte is seeking volunteers for our High School Program Kickoff event! We are hosting the first of many technology workshops tailored to high school girls, with our first one being Virtual Reality.
Volunteer duties:
- Volunteers will facilitate the workshop, teach and mentor the girls, and assist in setup, registration, and takedown.
- No previous tech experience is required; we will be hosting a training session for volunteers to learn the curriculum and required skills.
Dates needed:
- Saturday, January 19th from 2-4pm for a volunteer orientation and training session. At this event, you will learn more about our mission and the curriculum for the workshop.
- February 2nd and 3rd from 8am to 5pm. For the main event!
Below are more details on the tasks that we need help with. You may do just one or more than one:
- Set-Up: 7am - 8am
- Help set-up tables and chairs. Set up laptops and projector. Help with compiling folders and swag bags. Hand out materials for volunteers. Make sure that everything is ready for the high school program before it begins.
- Registration: 7am - 8am
- Manage the table to: sign-in girls, provide swag bags, direct high school girls to the correct destination, and give out name tags. Also check-in volunteers and direct them to where they need to be.
- All-day Workshop Assistants: Saturday and/or Sunday 8am - 5pm
- Help assist nominees with high school program. Working with various high school girls throughout the day. Knowledge of basic web design concepts, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript will be useful but not required.
- Clean-Up: 5pm - 6pm
- Help put away materials after the program has ended. Make sure that the tables and chairs are put back to how they were beforehand. Clean up materials and assist girls in collecting their things.
All volunteers will be provided with a ChickTech t-shirt (to be worn during the event), and lunch if you are volunteering at that time.

ChickTech is a multi-generational community helping each other become technology creators. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events and mentorship to empower, support, and increase the confidence of girls, women, and non-binary folks. Through our programs, we build community, empower participants to see themselves as leaders, and provide networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing tech industry.
As a mostly volunteer-run non-profit, we are always searching for partners who would like to get involved through donations of expertise, volunteer time, in-kind, funding, or just by helping to get the word out.
