Literacy Tutors Needed for Mentors in Toledo Schools Program

This is an opportunity to help young students become better readers! Partners in Education is seeking virtual volunteers for our Mentors in Toledo Schools program. The program works one on one with Kindergarten to grade three students who are struggling with reading and writing. We need tutors to be available for remote tutoring sessions, during the regular school day, to help with students at several schools in both Toledo Public and Washington Local districts. All of the activities and materials will be provided to you by our site coordinators through the student’s teacher, so there is no pre-preparation on the part of the volunteer or prior knowledge of curriculum needed to tutor a student, other than a willing heart and a passion for literacy - and a computer with an internet connection. Tutor from home, work or wherever you happen to be.

We would love to have volunteers commit to a half hour or one hour on the same day each week to provide a consistent and caring adult for one student, but scheduling is flexible. And if you have availability to tutor more days or for longer periods, that would be much appreciated.
Our tutoring program will run October through May. All ages 18 and up may apply. 90 minutes of online training is provided prior to the program’s start . The schools require a background check be run on all volunteers. The background can be completed on site. Partners in Education covers the cost of training and background checks.
