CHDC has five supportive housing sites throughout the Hell’s Kitchen community. Each site has a Community Center, a Social Service office and social workers on site. Programming at each site occurs at different days and times. Considering students limited availability, work schedules will be flexible. Interns can work a minimum of 10 hours and up to 20 hours per week and are allowed to work at different sites. Inters will be supervised by the departments’ Community Engagement Coordinator.


Community Cultivation Intern/Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Facilitate ongoing onsite tenant activities in conjunction with leadership.
  • Assist with design and implement of new tenant activities.
  • Prepare all supplies and spaces for program activities.
  • Assist in various administrative tasks at the CHDC main office
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Provide support other Community Cultivation events as needed.
  • Arrive on-site thirty minutes prior to all scheduled programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant must be available during afternoons
  • Applicant must be self-motivated and be able to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work with diverse population including formerly homeless

Description

Clinton Housing Development is a non-profit housing committed to developing New York's Hell's Kitchen community and surrounding neighborhoods through the provision of permanent affordable housing. Our Community Cultivation Department is deeply committed to grass roots organizing and building partnerships around greening, open space and health. The Community Cultivation Department is responsible for the coordination of community engagement and outreach, design and coordination of all community projects throughout Hell's Kitchen, design of all gardens and green spaces and supportive housing tenants events and outings.

  • Must be at least 18
  • Volunteers can work a minimum of 8 hours and maximum of 20 hours per week. A 3 month commitment is required.
