Boys & Girls Club of America hosts an annual recognition program that promotes service, academic success, moral character, life goals, and public speaking for our outstanding members. To start this exciting journey, each club nominates club members to be the Kid of the Year representatives. The middle school and high school Kid of the Year nominees are tasked with writing and presenting a speech that explains the profound positive impact the Boys & Girls Club has made on their lives. These speeches will be given at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Ventura Youth of the Year event slated for March 2019. The winner of our event will move on to the next round of the national competition where they will be vying for the National Youth of the Year title and various scholarships. Each middle school and high school nominee at our clubs: Addison Center, Harrison Center, LeFevre Center and Oak View Center, need your help in perfecting their speeches, as well as tips on giving an engaging presentation.

Commitment: Once a week - spending 30-60 minutes with the nominees at the club going over their speeches and giving presentation pointers.

Length of time: now until the event in March (date still TBA) - roughly 12-14 weeks

The members have worked hard to reach this point in their Boys & Girls Club journey and this event is the start of a national wide competition to determine the 2019 Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year. Our members are eager for your expertise and can’t wait to get started!

Four clubs to choose from: Addison Center - 1440 N. Olive Street, Harrison Center - 11321 Violeta Street, LeFevre Center - 1929 Johnson Drive and Oak View Center - 555 Mahoney Avenue.

Each club is open Monday through Friday with the teens in house between 4-6 p.m.

Volunteer application and background check required for volunteer opportunities.
