Purpose/Objective: Provide care for siblings, social-emotional growth opportunities and play-based educational activities for siblings (including infants) of Anchor Center infants and toddlers while their parents are in class with their child who is visually impaired. Activities may include arts and crafts, sensory activities, gross motor play, story time, cooking, and social activities.
Toddler Program 9:30am-11am
Infant Program 12pm-1:30pm
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Greet siblings and their parents as they arrive
- Engage children in age-appropriate activities and play
- Supervise children during snack
- Notify staff if ever a child needs to go to the bathroom, diaper change or gets hurt
- Help prepare activities before the session and clean up after the session
Training/Support: Orientation and on-the-job training by Anchor Center program staff; a staff person will always be present with the volunteer. A policy handbook will be provided to all volunteers and questions are encouraged.
Qualifications Sought:
- Has experience and feels comfortable with children ages 0 to 5 years (experience in an educational setting a plus)
- Patient and flexible; reliable in keeping commitments
- Ability to follow directions and work with others
- No problems lifting small children
