The Wildlife Clinic relies heavily on a team of dedicated volunteers to provide care for over 4000 injured and orphaned wild animals each year. Volunteers can choose from several training courses depending on their area of interest. No previous rehabilitation experience is required, however, volunteers must meet the following criteria:
- Be 16 years old to work in Clinic Support, and 18 years old to work in Animal Care
- During the busy season, commit to one 4-hour shift per week.
- Current tetanus vaccination
- Attend an orientation session and complete required training
Clinic Support - The foundation of daily clinic operations, volunteers complete essential tasks such as prepare diets, clean and set-up enclosures, and help maintain a clean and sanitary facility including washing dishes and doing laundry.
Animal Care - Working alongside the rehabilitation staff, volunteers participate in daily hands-on care of animal patients, including feeding, safe capture and restraint, recording daily weight, and monitoring patient progress.
Hotline and Administration - This role is vital to keeping clinic operations running smoothly by helping with intake of wildlife, fielding phone calls from the public, responding to patient status inquiries, and assisting in data entry and record keeping.
Property Maintenance - In conjunction with the Land and Facilities team, volunteers keep the property looking great and functioning well by mowing grass, making small repairs to enclosures, pressure washing, and snow clearing.
