Programs Director

AZSA Mission
To create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions in Arizona

Role Purpose
Oversee the successful implementation of all of AZSA’s priorities and successfully support all priority leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard and train new priority leaders (PLs), outlining responsibilities
  • Create or adjust training packet for PLs and Assistant PLs
  • Be available and accountable to PLs to answer questions, check-in, etc.
  • Support PLs in the design of new project proposals
  • Review project proposals before they go to the Executive Director
  • Work with Executive Director to organize, oversee and prioritize all program activities
  • Step into the role of PL or assistant PL as necessary if the position is a) vacant or b) the person is temporarily unavailable
  • Responsible for staffing PL and co-lead positions (including interviewing, onboarding, and determining if not a good fit). Also, work with PL and co-leads to staff and train any needed project coordinators.
  • Work directly with the Executive Director to ensure that each priority is completing its goals
  • Ensure that for each priority:
    • All strategies are completed in a timely manner
    • A budget exists and is followed for each project (with Executive Director and Treasurer)
    • Has a clear method of evaluating the success of projects
    • Creates a reasonable project timeline
    • Proper procurement procedures are followed
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Communications Director to ensure support needed for communications and funding of projects
  • Ensure accountability of PLs (have monthly meetings, etc.)
  • Train PLs and assistant PLs in program management, team management, and other skills they may be in need of
  • Work with the Executive Director to strategize and problem solve as it relates to operations, communications, and volunteer management

Ideal Skill Set

  • 3-5 years of management - both of people and projects
  • Demonstrated project design experience
  • Project evaluation, survey design, and implementation, etc.
  • Experience using project management software
  • Experience in planning and reconciling budgets
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation
  • Skillful and effective communication with diverse audiences in both oral and written formats
  • Able to work well remotely
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple assignments
  • Able to act in the best interest of the nonprofit
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters

Time Commitment: Approximately 10-20 hours a week

All AZSA positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to the particular position.
