POSITION SUMMARY
Volunteers with our Valle Lindo Summer Program engage with children, read with them, and support general summer activities. Please note that this volunteer position requires volunteers to spend the majority of their shift outside - volunteers should be prepared for the weather. Volunteers in this position will also spend the majority of their shift on their feet.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Strive to remain compassionate, non-judgmental, flexible, and impartial when assisting people that have lifestyles, spiritual beliefs, and interests that are different from your own
 Respect the privacy of children, families, and staff; abide by the Volunteer Program’s confidentiality policies
 Activities including: reading, art, and recreational activities like soccer, basketball, relay races, etc.
 Engage with and build mentor relationships with participants
 Check with program supervisor for additional projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education and Experience:

Required:
 Minimum 18 years of age
 Available during the week in the summer - shifts are available in 4-8 hour schedules. Volunteer will be schedule for shifts on the same day and time each week
 Multiple shifts are welcome and encouraged
 Ability to interact with a variety of people including children, adults, staff, and fellow volunteers
 Respect of diverse lifestyles, cultures, religions, and values
 Must be able to safely lift up to 40 pounds

Preferred:
 Previous volunteer experience working with children
 Bi-lingual (Spanish)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 Ability to take directions
 Ability to respect and maintain confidential information
 Ability to follow verbal & written instructions
 Strong interpersonal & communication skills
 Dependable, responsible, and punctual
 Recognizes limitations and asks for help when unsure
 Awareness of cultural competency; sensitivity in working with diverse cultures

ORIENTATION & TRAINING
New Volunteer Mentors will maintain compliance with CHSW and program-specific standards in regard to competencies, safety, confidentiality, and infection control:
 Complete initial New Volunteer Training and site-specific orientation
 Learn and know infection control, CHSW safety and emergency protocols
 Review and follow policies and guidelines outlined in Volunteer Policies & Program Assignment handout
 Respect and maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and other volunteers
 Maintain regular communication with Volunteer Services and assigned program supervisor
 Maintain annual training compliance
