The Westside Emergency Housing Center offers a safe and welcoming environment to men, women and families experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The center opens on November 15th and we encourage those in need to utilize this valuable community resource. We are looking for volunteers to:

  • Donation Sorting: Help sort and organize clothing donations

  • Tutoring: Help elementary and middle school aged kids with their homework

  • Playroom monitor: Entertain children and help give parents a break

  • File Making: Helping Staff assemble new client paperwork into organized files

  • Folding Laundry: Making bed rolls for new residents

  • Doing Laundry: Taking children’s dirty laundry home, washing and drying it and bringing it back so that the kids can have clean clothing

  • Cleaning: Our custodial staff does a great job but sometimes they need extra help, sweeping, moping and sanitizing

Mission Statement

We envision an Albuquerque where homelessness is rare, short-lived and nonrecurring.

Description

We are an Albuquerque based 501c3 non-profit organization, established in 2004. Heading Home is the backbone agency for ABQ Heading Home, a community wide initiative that aims to end chronic homelessness in Albuquerque. Along with our community partners in the for-profit, non-profit, private, public, and political sectors, we are providing permanent, supportive housing solutions to people who are medically vulnerable and are experiencing chronic homelessness. The ABQ Heading Home initiative has housed over 800 individuals since it began in 2011. Head Home also provides emergency shelter each night for 88 adult men experiencing homelessness through the Albuquerque Opportunity Center (AOC).
