We need volunteers to help us perform some of the "elf' duties the toy drive requires. This includes sorting toys into ages, doing toy "rescue" with our used toys (cleaning, checking for pieces, etc), and then getting to the wrapping part.

Snacks and beverages will provided, including hot chocolate!

The South Shore Toy Drive accepts toy donations (used and new), donations of wrapping supplies, and we always need batteries (all sizes).

Email us us if you can’t make it on this day but still want to volunteer. And check the South Shore Toy Project Facebook page for more opportunities!

Mission Statement

We are an organization rooted in working toward equality. Equality meaning that all people have the rights stated in our Declaration of Independence, the rights to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. One step further is that every person should have an equal footing toward obtaining the things that are essential to sustaining life- food, water, shelter, clothing, and further, education, healthcare and employment.

Description

  • We are an organization rooted in working toward equality.
  • Our first goal is ending poverty in the United States, beginning in the Chicago area. Why? There is no reason poverty should exist in the "richest" country in the world. It is a direct result of inequality- not everyone has access to all the same opportunities- education, employment, etcetera. As for the Chicago area, we realize to accomplish a goal so big, we have to start small. There is no better place to begin than a richly diverse city, historically resistant to change. Our thought is, if change can happen here, it can happen anywhere. Including around the world, especially in parts of Africa where it is needed most.
  • We see our organization as a part of a movement that was started in the 1960's but seemed to lose momentum with the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At the end of his life, he formulated a plan for the "Poor People's Campaign". It didn't really have a chance to run, so we're taking a similar path and running with it.
