Habitat Restoration Workdays at Lynda Clayton Preserve in McHenry

Get out in nature and meet like-minded people who share your love of open spaces! Lynda Clayton Preserve features high-quality wetlands, natural stream corridors and a remnant oak grove. Our volunteers have made some great progress clearing the buckthorn and honeysuckle out of the sedge meadows, and they've been rebounding with wonderful native plants!

Volunteers are needed to remove invasive species that prohibit the growth of native trees and plants. All year long we cut brush such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and small willows with chainsaws and hand loppers. Volunteers can cut or help build and burn brush piles.

No experience is necessary, so if you love being outside, come join our team of friendly volunteers! Tools and light refreshments are provided. Please dress in long pants, sturdy shoes and old clothing for working near a burn pile.

Workdays at Lynda Clayton Preserve occur the last Wednesday of the month.

About The Land Conservancy of McHenry County

Location:

PO BOX 352, WOODSTOCK, IL 60098, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to preserve scenic, natural and agricultural resources in McHenry County by working with private landowners, communities and developers.

Description

Since 1991, The Land Conservancy has helped protect over 2,500 acres of McHenry County's prairies, wetlands and woodlands by working with private landowners, communities and other partners. We do this by accepting donated conservation easements and direct acquisition of property (through purchase or donation).

TLC has programs to help preserve land, agricultural land, conserve oak trees and actively restore the properties we own.

We also hold a number of events throughout the year that are opportunities for people to learn about the work TLC does, get involved with TLC, develop new skills and support land preservation in McHenry County.

Events include the Art of the Land fundraiser, Annual Celebration Brunch, our annual rain barrel and composter sale, and our spring and fall native plant sales.

TLC also hosts several restoration workdays throughout the month. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, and no experience is needed to participate. We will train people on basic land restoration techniques that include removal of invasive brush, garlic mustard control and native seed collection.
