Mission Statement

Palo Alto Recreation Foundation’s mission is to support the City of Palo Alto’s Recreation Division in sponsoring and funding programs and special events to promote the social, cultural and recreational needs of Palo Alto and surrounding areas’ residents and visitors to the city.

Description

PARF serves the community in three ways:

PARF supports and organizes multiple large-scale, community-wide free events that have become hallmarks and traditions enjoyed by thousands of citizens and visitors to Palo Alto. These events enhance youth, senior, family and neighborhood interactions, and promotes fun community development throughout Palo Alto and surrounding areas. Some examples include the May Fete Children’s Parade, July 4 Chili Cook Off, Downtown Holiday Celebrations, Alto World Music Day, California Ave Trick or Treat and Blossom Halloween Carnival.

PARF is dedicated to support the Palo Alto Recreation Division’s needs. The Foundation supports many programs that play an integral part in the wellness and success of Palo Alto and surrounding neighborhoods’ residents and youth. Some examples include: Baylands Interpretive Center Remodel, Summer Camp Scholarships, Middle School Athletics Program and Scholarships.

PARF offers sponsorship and seed money to new social enterprises and initiatives. By investing in such innovative programs, PARF helps incubate them to help build a strong foundation. Many succeed in becoming their own nonprofit. These initiatives help to enrich and sustain the community and make our neighborhoods a desirable place to live and work. Some examples include: Youth Community Services, East Palo Alto Summer Recreation Programs, Positive Alternatives for Youth, Project LOOK!, Safe Ride, Palo Alto Teen Center, After School Outlet.
