Boo Boo at MFS

Maple Farm Sanctuary (MFS), a sanctuary for rescued farm animals located in Mendon, Massachusetts, is looking for a volunteer to develop and manage our public relations program.

The MFS Public Relations Manager will work with other MFS volunteers, including our Communications Director and social media managers, on the following tasks:

  • Creating a strategic public relations plan for MFS
  • Helping identify and reach out to contacts in the local media and animal advocacy and other related communities
  • Writing press releases to promote MFS events and initiatives
  • Identifying other opportunities for press coverage and pitching story ideas to print, broadcast, and digital media
  • Helping manage relationships with media outlets

MFS currently has a very basic public relations program, so we anticipate that the role will begin by helping refine this program and create a more strategic public relations strategy as we head into 2019.

Press releases will be needed for 3-4 events per year and other occasional news stories. Ideally, the volunteer will have some flexibility to respond to breaking news such as new animal rescues at MFS or trending topics in the news related to MFS. However, we understand that this is a volunteer role and longer lead time may be needed.

Qualifications include good communication skills and experience or an educational background in public relations. Experience working with non-profits is a plus. The volunteer should live locally to the sanctuary in Massachusetts, as some work will entail visiting the sanctuary, while other work can be performed remotely.

Please email your interest and tell us a little about yourself and your experience to jenw@maplefarmsanctuary.org.
