***Volunteers must live in DuPage County, Illinois***
During this time of COVID-19, we are offering Meet & Greet sessions via phone on a date and time that work for you. We also have virtual training available so new tutors can begin tutoring immediately once social distancing orders have been lifted.
Change Someone’s Future
Bridge the language gap by tutoring an adult English! As a volunteer tutor, you will teach an adult to communicate so they can do what most of us take for granted: make doctor appointments, go grocery shopping, speak with their children’s teachers, and so many other essential everyday tasks.
As a Literacy DuPage tutor, you’ll join a family of over 400 volunteers who work together to create lesson plans, share ideas, and forge friendships while strengthening our community’s ability to reach and embrace everyone. You’ll find yourself in a rewarding place: empowering adults with the life-changing benefits of literacy.
To learn how you can be part of this critical work - and why it matters so much in DuPage County - come to a new volunteer meet & greet. We’ll explain what it takes to be a tutor (in short, no prior experience - just a genuine desire to help) and how we’ll prepare you to teach English, and change a life, one conversation at a time.
Sign up for a meet & greet with Literacy DuPage to learn more about becoming a tutor. You can sign up through Volunteer Match, our website (www.literacydupage.org), by phone (630.942.5210) or email (email@example.com). We look forward to meeting you!
Can’t make it? We ask you to register for these sessions so we can be sure we are staffed and stocked to provide every single participant with all the information you need. Of course, we understand things come up. If you can’t make your originally scheduled session, please email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to reschedule.

Literacy DuPage equips a big-hearted army of tutors to sit side-by-side with adults who cannot understand, speak, read, or write English. Imagine! We give these volunteers the materials, techniques, and confidence they need to help adults bust through language barriers and experience a whole new world of communication and connection--right here in DuPage County. Together, we help adults achieve their goals through free, accessible and customized tutoring in English to empower families and communities through literacy.
Literacy DuPage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community-based organization that provides accessible and customized tutoring in English to adult learners in DuPage County. Since 1972, we have been able to provide this service for free to over 10,000 adult learners throughout 30 different communities in DuPage County through the generosity and dedication of our volunteer tutors.
Our tutors come from a wide range of backgrounds, as no prior teaching experience or foreign language background is necessary to become a tutor. We train and guide our tutors throughout the tutoring process. Materials and techniques are provided to allow the tutor to guide the learner toward the achievement of personal goals. Tutors incorporate everyday materials such as a newspaper, map, or job application into their lessons. Tutoring occurs in one-on-one or small group settings at a mutually convenient time and location for both tutors and students.
If you wish to help literally change the lives of adult learners and impact future generations as a volunteer tutor, please visit our website at http://www.literacydupage.org or call us at 630.942.5210. We look forward to hearing from you!
