  • In August 2017, we were given our 1st grant to H. E. Butt Family Foundation Camp in Leaky, Texas. They granted us the 4 day use of a 170 bed facility valued over $20,000. We were still in charge of food, transportation and programming. Well Hurricane Harvey hit Houston the weekend we were to go, we were stuck in my home with 9 teenage boys and 3 young men, along with 2 families for 5 days as we waited for the water to go down. The foundation decided to allow us to go the first weekend in October, but for a 85 bed facility. We took 50 youths and their families for free. This year we were extended the camp again and we brought 102 youth and their families for no cost to them! Next camp is scheduled for Labor Day 2019 and our goal is to bring 150 youths and families for free! We are once again in charge of programming, transportation and food. We are in need of volunteers to help us operate the camp in multiple areas such as drivers, food service, cabin monitoring, camp clean up, Arts and Crafts instructors, Fishing instructors, Basketball Coach for 3 on 3 tournament, Outdoor Activities/Games, Mentoring to youths, families, men, and women on various Life subjects. We have four primary focuses : Affordable, safe living/Housing for low-income families, seniors, disabled and young adults exiting Foster Care System; Provide technical assistance for Women/Disadvantaged Small Businesses; Community Outreach Informational Sessions for the community residents on various empowering, transformative topics to enhance their everyday lives; Out of School Time Program for at-risk, low-income middle and high school youths and College/Job Skills to Completion for young adults.

Description

As a new organization we began with our Out of School Time Program for low-income, at-risk Middle and High School youths with College to Completion. As going into our second year decided to include families with the youth to create lasting bonds that can help bridge the gap of the educational years into adulthood of each youth that are apart of us. Our 1st grant was with H. E. Butt Foundation Camp in Leaky, Texas. They granted us a 170-bed facility for a 4-day weekend to perform a camp. This is value over $25,000. We are responsible for food, programming and transportation for our camp. Our 1st year, Mother Nature intervened and Hurricane Harvey hit the weekend we were to go, so the foundation graciously gave us the 1st weekend of October and we provided this camp for 50 youth and their families for free. This grant is ongoing, as long as we can plan it!!! So this year we went again and 102 youth and their families! It was amazing! Our next camp is Labor Day weekend 2019. We are excited about the goals of bringing 150 youths and their family members!! We work the concession stands of the Rocket games and other concerts, events, along with support from the public, in order to provide these camps for free to the participants!! These camps provide these troubled youth an opportunity to create new bonds with their family and community outside of the classrooms and home. These bonds can provide much need support during the educational years into adulthood.
