Special Olympics in Asheville, North Carolina is seeking a Healthy Athletes "Health Promotion" Clinical Director to join the Health Promotion team. Special Olympics NC needs qualified medical professionals to assist with the organization of Healthy Athletes screening events. Certificate and current licensure as a health professional (e.g., RD, CHES, RN, MD, DO, PA, NP) is needed to volunteer.

Health Promotion, a discipline of Special Olympics Healthy Athletes, focuses on healthy living, healthy lifestyle choices, and nation-specific health issues. In addition to health education activities, Health Promotion offers screenings for bone density, blood pressure, and body mass index (BMI). Its goals include encouraging and enhancing healthy behaviors and improving self-efficacy and self-advocacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the local Special Olympic program to coordinate a screening event in the Asheville region.
  • Recruit and train volunteer health professionals.
  • Use Healthy Athletes Software (HAS) to document athletes' health status and needs during screenings.
